Olympic Peninsula Photography
For my first wedding anniversary my wife and I took a trip to the Olympic Peninsula. We visited lots of beautiful places like Sequim, Hurricane Ridge, and Ruby Beach. The weather was great for most of the trip and when It wasn’t the best for walking it was great for photography. As a special bonus we got to see some Orca whales from the ferry on the ride over.
One of our first nights in Sequim the sky was clear except for a single formation of clouds over Port Angeles. I was able to capture the fading light dancing on the clouds as the mountains faded into silhouettes.
The drive up to Hurricane Ridge is one that I recommend to anyone. It is an easy way to get right into the heart of the Olympics and be surrounded with stunning views of snow capped peaks. The trails up there are easy and very accessible as they wind through alpine tundra and forests of windswept pines.
In addition to great sunsets the view from Sequim offered some great storm clouds. The wind had started picking up but the rain had not yet arrived. It took the opportunity to get a few photos down the coast and one out over the sound.
Ruby Beach is another location that I wholeheartedly endorse visiting. The beach is stunning in any weather and at any tide level. The sea stacks tower over the waves, and the forest extends down the cliffs all the way to the ocean. I made sure to also take time to look beneath my feet at the small details that others overlook.
