Moss Close to Home
Yesterday there was a surprise break in the constant rain we’ve had since the new year started and I wanted to take advantage of it. So during lunch I packed up my Sony a7 iii and headed outside for some fresh air. I had remembered the wooden fence posts along the path across the street had some interesting moss growing on them. The last time I had taken my camera out I got a couple of shots of them, but most ended up being out of focus. So I headed over to the fence posts to see if I could improve on my last attempt.
Photography during COVID
Since my last time out I did more research on the capabilities of my new camera to try and correct the focus issue I ran into last time using auto focus. I learned about the Sony a7ii’s focus peeking display. The focus peeking shows on the viewfinder the parts of the picture that are in focus. With is enabled I was able to get much shaper pictures more reliably.
The best pics from the walk:
This fence post had one of the largest varieties of moss on top and the background had an interesting texture when out of focus
With this picture I wanted to mess with the angle instead of just having a flat topped fence post along with the tree in the background to give some more defined details.
Some alternative post processing on a similar photo
On my way back home I saw this tree with really interesting bark. When I got closer I saw the little tufts of moss and wanted to capture all the details
